Hot Weather Exposes Pets To Risk Of Over-Heating

WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. -- The Whatcom Humane Society is asking pet owners to take precautions to protect their companion animals from the coming heat wave.

The Humane Society warns not to leave your pets in a parked car, even for a few minutes, during hot weather.

The inside of a car can quickly reach 120 degrees on a hot day, and pets that are left in hot cars can suffer from heat stroke, and even death.

Also, provide plenty of water and shade for your pets and livestock animals so they can stay hydrated and cool.

And limit pets exercise to the early morning or evening hours.

If your pet does become overheated, gradually lower its body temperature with cool water, and get your pet to a veterinarian immediately.
