WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. -- Whatcom County's commercial raspberry harvest is wrapping up, but farmers say this year's crop is down due to the bad weather.
Randy Honcoop, Lynden-area raspberry farmer and father of KGMI's Dillon Honcoop, says the cool spring and wet summer made it difficult to produce high-quality fruit.
He says struggles with wet bushes and machine harvesting lowered the total yield, while problems with overripe berries took a toll on quality...
Whatcom County leads the country in red raspberry production.
The Washington Red Raspberry Commission says this year's harvest may be down by double-digit numbers.
This follows a 2011 harvest that was up 22 percent from the previous year.
