Free Tobacco Quitline Service Reinstated

OLYMPIA, Wash. -- The State Department of Health has announced it is again offering free support to all Washington residents who want to quit smoking.

Washington State’s free tobacco quitline was eliminated last year due to budget cuts, but new funding has allowed it to be reinstated.

Department of Health Secretary Mary Selecky says this is a big step towards Washington becoming a non-smoking state.

Selecky says more than 6500 people called the quitline last year, but didn’t qualify for service.

The free service provides counseling, a personal quit plan, a quit kit and referrals to local resources.

Eligible callers can also get a supply of nicotine patches or gum.

You can contact the quit-line at 1-800-QUIT-NOW, for Spanish, call 1-877-2NO-FUME.
