Department Of Health Advises Use Of Life Jackets

BELLINGHAM, Wash. -- One of the perks of living in Bellingham during summertime is all of the opportunities to get out and enjoy our lakes and rivers.

The State Department of Health is advising everyone out on the water to wear a life jacket.

Gary Fraser says it’s required for children under the age of 13 to wear a life jacket when boating, but adults are also at risk.

Drowning is the second leading cause of death or injury in children under the age of 14 and third leading cause of unintentional injury death for everyone younger than 50.
