Mayors, King County Exec. Press For Talks In Garbage Strike

SEATTLE, Wash.  (Metro)  -- As recyclables, yard waste and garbage pile up across King and Snohomish counties, city mayors and King County Executive Dow Constantine urge Waste Management and its striking drivers to resume negotiations.

Meanwhile, the company and the Teamsters Union are squabbling over the terms of bargaining.

Yesterday, the union called for new contract talks to be held Saturday, but the company demanded the union call off its strike first.

Drivers walked off the job and onto the picket lines Wednesday in a wage dispute, leaving 200,000 customers without garbage and recycling service.
