Brush Fire At Deming School Almost Spells Disaster

DEMING, Wash. -- A brief scare for a Kendall School yesterday as a fire erupted near propane tanks.

Mount Baker School District Superintendent Charlie Burleigh says a small brush fire started inside an enclosure for propane tanks next to Kendall Elementary School yesterday afternoon.

Burleigh says the only real damage was to a plastic fence that melted a bit and an area of grass and brush was burned up.

He says the building was built to code so a fire near the propane tanks would not have been a severe risk to the students or the school.
