Road Work Picks Up On I-5

WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. -- The return of warm, dry weather here in the northwest also means the return of road work on Interstate 5 south of Bellingham.

Dustin Terpening with the State Department of Transportation says starting Monday, late-night and early-morning drivers will see construction crews at work on the freeway between Burlington and Lake Samish.

He says crews will work mostly at night this year in hopes of avoiding backups for drivers, but several of the on and off-ramps will be closed at night during construction.

During the first week of work, crews plan to close ramps at the Bow Hill Road, Cook Road and Lake Samish Road interchanges.

The work is expected to wrap up by September. Up-to-the-minute information on ramp closures in the area can be found online at wsdot.wa.gov.
