Lifeguard saves a man's life, gets fired



MIAMI - Lifeguard Tomas Lopez says he was just following the biggest rule of his job when he saved a drowning man.

But apparently he forgot about a minor rule - and was fired.

Lopez, 21, violated protocol when he race a quarter mile down the beach, leaving his beach zone before a supervisor came to cover his station, The New York Times reports.

“Someone was in danger,” Lopez said. “I wasn’t going to choose my job over someone in danger. My job is to help people in distress. It was a moronic rule in my opinion that they set up. I understand the liability issues, but. ...”
