Police Focus On Traffic Enforcement

BELLINGHAM ,Wash. -- Bellingham Police are cracking down on bad drivers as we begin the summer months.

Officer Mark Young says for three hours every Wednesday, officers in the traffic unit will put aside other police work and focus on enforcement.

He says the first emphasis patrol took place June 13 on the guide meridian, and during that time, officers stopped 72 drivers and wrote 59 tickets.

He says the patrols will take place all summer each Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Future patrol locations will be selected based on citizen complaints and documented traffic problem areas in the city.

Young says the extra traffic enforcement is an effort to reduce accidents and improve driving behavior.
