LYNDEN, Wash. -- Officials are again praising post 9/11 technology installed at the U.S.-Canada border – giving it credit for the weekend capture of a high-profile Canadian murder suspect in Whatcom County.
Chief with U.S. Customs and Border protection says when fugitive Travis Baumgartner arrived at the Lynden Border crossing, his license plates were automatically checked against police databases, showing he could be armed and dangerous.
Schreiber says Baumgartner was arrested without incident.
He says the 21 year old is wanted in the murders of three of his co-workers at an armored car company in Edmonton, and was busted at the border with cash – likely robbed from an armored car.
