TACOMA, Wash. -- Steven Powell was sentenced Friday afternoon to two-and-a-half-years in jail for 12 counts of voyeurism.
After credit for time served the sentence is less than two years.
The presiding judge called the prosecutor’s request for 10 years “excessive” and vacated two of the 14 voyeurism counts against Powell.
The judge also gave Powell three years of community custody.
Powell took sexual pictures and video of two young neighbor girls in their bathroom.
The defense asked for one year, arguing the sexual pictures Powell took should be one count claiming they were taken during one photographing session.
He is the father-in-law of missing Utah mother Susan Cox-Powell and the father of Josh Powell, who killed himself and his two young sons in a house explosion near Graham earlier this year.
