BELLINGHAM, Wash. -- A Coalition of Local Cooperatives has declared this Saturday the "Co-op Day of Action" in an effort to attract volunteers.

The United Nations had declared 2012 the International Year of the Cooperative.

Linda Sant with the Gapac Community Federal Credit Union says co-ops are member-owned non-profit organizations.



She says they have three opportunities to volunteer Saturday at the Arne Hannah Aquatic Center, the Bellingham food bank farm, and at the native plant nursery at North Cascades National Park.

Each site will need volunteers ready to work 4 to 5 hours of farming, landscaping and planting.

Sant says the day of action will include a barbeque hosted by the Bellingham Parks and Recreation Department.
