WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. -- The Whatcom County Council, acting as the County Board of Health, will look at a plan today aimed at making the county a healthier place.
This after a recent report revealed several health disparities between various segments of the population.
Whatcom County Health Manager Astrid Newell says even though the county ranks above average for health overall, residents who are poor or less-educated, as well as some ethnic minorities are less healthy.
She says one area where we are doing worse than other counties is with drug abuse.
She says the County Health Board will be looking at the community health improvement plan.
It includes strategies such as a developing a coordinated community response for substance abuse, and a system to better connect people with health issues to the services that can help them.
