Grant Helps Veterans Navigate College Campuses

OLYMPIA, Wash. -- The State Department of Veterans Affairs has received a grant from Americorps for a program helping vets navigate Washington's colleges and universities.

The $650,000 grant will help the Veterans Affairs Department continue the Vet Corps Program.

Program manager Mark Fischer says Vet Corps members act as on-campus guides for veterans, helping them find financial aid and other services.

He says last year, vet corps members helped 3,000 veterans, active duty members or their families.

The new grant pays for 50 full-time vet corps members to be stationed at colleges and universities throughout the state. Most of the grant money goes straight to members as a monthly stipend.
