SEATTLE, Wash. (Metro) -- The father of the only person to survive last week's carnage at Seattle's Café Racer says his son is making a tremendous recovery.
Raymond Meuse tells komonews.com that his son Leonard is out of ICU and in satisfactory condition, recovering from gunshot wounds that punctured his lung and shattered his jaw.
Leonard Meuse, a chef at Café Racer, was hit in the face and armpit when Ian Stawicki opened fire there May 30th, killing four other people.
The bullet that hit Leonard in the head shattered his jaw, broke a number of teeth and shredded his tongue, which surgeons sewed back together.
The elder Meuse says remarkably, Leonard has been able to mumble a few words.
But he says the most amazing part is that Leonard survived the second shot with no paralysis.
The 46-year-old military veteran has even been able to take a few steps with help.
Four others at the café died in the shootings, as did a 52-year-old Bellevue woman when Stawicki shot her as he carjacked her SUV near Town Hall.
A few hours later, Stawicki took his own life as police closed in on him.
