BELLINGHAM, Wash. -- The Bellingham International Airport is getting a big grant to fix up the pavement at its aircraft parking ramp.
U.S. Representative Rick Larsen from Washington's 2nd District on Thursday announced the $2.8-million grant from the Federal Aviation Administration.
Port of Bellingham Aviation Director Daniel Zenk says the asphalt on the ramp is over 20 years old and beyond its useful life.
Zenk says the rehabilitation, along with the expansion of the airport terminal, won't cause the airport to close down and most passengers won't notice any disturbance.
Representative Larsen released a statement saying “This investment in Bellingham International Airport will create jobs and help keep Whatcom County moving.”
