Bellingham Joins Fight Against Citizens United Decision



BELLINGHAM, Wash. -- Bellingham has joined in a national movement against a United States Supreme Court decision that allows corporations to spend freely on advertising before elections.

Bellingham City Council this week unanimously approved a resolution expressing opposition to high court's decision in the 2010 "Citizens United vs. Federal Election Commission" case.

The city's measure also calls on congress to amend the U.S. Constitution limiting the rights of corporations to influence elections.

The resolution was introduced by council members Seth Fleetwood and Michael Lilliquist.

A coalition of groups opposed to the Citizens United decision have dubbed next week "Resolutions Week" in a nation-wide effort to pass local resolutions against the ruling.
