Cherry Point Refinery Resumes Full Operations

FERNDALE, Wash. (Metro)  -- Washington's largest oil refinery is back, and analysts are watching to see whether it brings gas prices down.

KING 5 News and Reuters report BP's Cherry Point refinery near Ferndale is back online and in full operation this morning, after an explosive fire shut it down in February.

The fire was traced to the Crude Vacuum Unit, where there was a release of residue that caught fire.

Cherry Point processes about 230-thousand barrels of crude oil each day.

Meanwhile, AAA reports the average gas price is four-27 per gallon in Washington, higher than the national average of three-63.

Bellingham has the state's highest average pump price, at four-43 a gallon.
