WHATCOM COUNTY, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Election season is coming into full swing in Whatcom County as ballots are being delivered to mailboxes around the county.

The Whatcom County Auditor’s Office mailed out ballots for the Nov. 5 general election on Wednesday, Oct. 16, and ballot drop boxes are now officially open.

Voters will decide on three federal races for U.S. President, U.S. Senate and U.S. Representative for District 2.

At the state level, races for governor, attorney general, secretary of state, superintendent and commissioner of public lands are all up for grabs.

Four initiatives are seeking to repeal state laws involving the capital gains tax, carbon cap and invest program, long-term care tax and the use of natural gas.

There are several local measures on the ballot, including a $70 million bond for the Blaine School District and a $75 million bond for the Meridian School District.

Whatcom Fire District 1—which serves Everson and Nooksack—is also running back a $13 million bond for a new fire station.

Ballots are due at a ballot drop box by 8 p.m. on election day or must be postmarked by Nov. 5. You can find a list of official drop box locations on our Elections 2024 page.
