LARRABEE STATE PARK, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – All lanes of Chuckanut Drive are closed after multiple rocks fell overnight in Larrabee State Park.
WSDOT said on social media that rocks and boulders—some car-sized—fell on SR 11, blocking the road north of Oyster Creek around midnight Saturday.
They add that special equipment will be needed to remove the rocks and say it will take time to clear the road. WSDOT spokesperson Eric Zackula said in an email that crews will jackhammer the six boulders into manageable pieces and move them with a loader into a dump truck.
Following the rock removal, Geotechs will still need to inspect area.
The state route is closed from mileposts 9.6 through 13.9. There is no estimated time for reopening.
Travelers are advised to seek alternate routes as the crews work to clear the road.
