BLAINE, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – The historic Plover ferry is set to return to service this month.
The City of Blaine says it expects the ferry to set sail in mid-August following several delays to its restoration project.
The 80-year-old Plover is recognized as the oldest foot passenger ferry in the state and has been out of operation since fall 2022. The Northern Light reports that the U.S. Coast Guard had discovered problems with the boat that required it to undergo extensive repairs. Since then, the city says it has spent over $100,000 to restore the local landmark.
Its traditional route connecting Blaine Harbor to Semiahmoo Spit will remain unchanged.
The city says it will be interviewing candidates to captain the ferry in the coming days.
