BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A man was hospitalized after he was struck by a train near downtown Bellingham.

Bellingham Police say that the man, who has not been identified, was hit at around 1:30 a.m. on Dec. 5 near the Bellingham Shipping Terminal on Cornwall Avenue.

The train’s conductor told investigators that they were traveling at 25 mph—due to dense fog—and used the horn to try to get the man off the tracks.

Responding officers said the victim was conscious and alert when they arrived. He was later transported to PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center.

Traffic near the shipping terminal and Glass Beach was shut down for about 2 hours.
