BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Whatcom County’s two 42nd District State House seats are up for election and both Democratic incumbents are in the lead.

Alicia Rule is well ahead of Ray Pelletti, her Republican challenger for Position 1, with almost 55% of the vote. Democrat Joe Timmons is also ahead in his re-election bid for Position 2. He leads Republican Kamal Bhachu 53.3% to 46.6%.

Democrat Liz Lovelett is also comfortably ahead in her re-election bid in the 40th District. She’s carrying over 71% of the vote in the only contested race in the district that includes parts of Bellingham and south Whatcom County.

Whatcom County voters are choosing members of a commission that will go over the document that determines how the county government functions.

The Charter Review Commission is seated every 10 years to review the county’s constitution and recommend changes to the voters. Voters in each County Council District will appoint three members of the 15-member commission.

Leading in District 1 are Liz Darrow, Andrew Reding and Joel Pitts-Jordan. Colton Kaltenfeldt, Eamonn Collins and Maya Morales are ahead in District 2. Jennifer Wright, Doug Chadwick and Kelly Krieger are the favorites in District 3.

Joe Elenbaas, Hannah Ordos and Brad Kelly are District 4 leaders and Lindsey Graham Elenbaas, Jon Mutchler and Rod Stump are ahead in District 5.

The commission will meet over the coming year and voters will ultimately decide on whether to make changes to county government that they recommend.

The next round of results for Whatcom County will be released at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 6.
