Fake newsman ‘Ron Burgundy’ anchors North Dakota news

If you play a fake TV anchorman in one of your biggest roles, what better way to promote a sequel — than to appear on the news. That’s what Will Ferrell did — not by doing an interview, but by reading the news as his character, Ron Burgundy.

Wearing his rust-colored three-piece suit and striped tie, Ferrell read stories off the TelePrompTer during his appearance on KXMB’s Saturday night newscast in Bismarck, North Dakota. He co-anchored the entire 30-minute program alongside real KXMB reporters.

And while he mugged some for the cameras, he tried to play it straight — at least as straight as Ferrell could do anything. He and real weekend anchor Amber Schatz bantered back and forth during the broadcast, which has been making the rounds online.

Speaking of making the rounds, Ferrell is in full promotion mode for “Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues.” Ferrell was in Canada over the holiday weekend to broadcast curling for TSN — Canada’s equivalent of ESPN.

Ferrell has also appeared in character for Dodge Durango commercials, a new Ben & Jerry’s ice cream flavor — and an exhibit at the Newseum in Washington, D.C.

The Russell Investments Center, at 1301 Second Ave., coordinated with building tenants to strategically close window blinds to light the number twelve, honoring the team's "12th Man," on the west-facing side of the 42-story building on Wednesday and will do so again on Friday.
