BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Western Washington University head women’s golf coach Bo Stephan has announced that Lacy Sheldon from the University of Montevallo will join the Vikings as a junior for the 2018-19 season.

“We’re really excited to have Lacy as a member of the women’s golf team this fall,” said Stephan, who enters his 14th season as WWU’s head coach in 2018-19. “She’ll bring experience and leadership to our team and her experience at the Division II level will be extremely valuable. Not only is she a solid player who will add depth to our roster, but she is a really great person who is excited for this change. She has been working hard on her game this summer and I know that she’ll make an immediate impact on our team.”

Sheldon (Dallas, TX/Legacy Christian Academy) was Montevallo’s (Alabama) top player as a sophomore in 2017-18, recording a stroke average of 79.20 (+7 to par) while playing in all nine of the Falcon’s tournaments. She recorded a pair of top 10 finishes, including a runner-up finish at the Full Moon Invitational and tying for 6th place at the Lady Cougar Golf Classic.

As a freshman in 2016-17, Sheldon recorded a 79.46 stroke average and competed in the NCAA Division II South Super Region Championship, tying for 36th place.

During her prep career at Legacy Christian Academy in Frisco, Texas, Sheldon helped lead the Lady Eagles to three consecutive state championships.

The WWU women’s golf team is scheduled to open the 2018-19 season Sept. 25-25 at the WNMU Fall Intercollegiate at the Golf Club at Estrella in Goodyear, Arizona. The tentative schedule can be viewed online at WWUVikings.com/WGolf.
