BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Western Washington University head men’s basketball coach Tony Dominguez has announced that athletic guard/forward Jalen Green out of Renton’s Lindbergh High School has signed to play with the Vikings beginning in the 2018-19 season.

Green was one of the most prolific scorers in the state of Washington in 2017-18, averaging 26.7 points per game while being named a First Team 2A All-SPSL Mountain selection. The 6-7 guard/forward also averaged 13.6 rebounds, 4.4 assists, 4.4 blocks and 1.3 steals per game during his senior season.

“We are extremely excited about Jalen. He possesses a variety of skills and abilities that reach on and off the court. He is a tremendous talent that plays both sides of the ball and with his size that makes him a tough match up,” said Dominguez, who will be entering his 7th season leading the program and 24th overall at WWU.

Green appeared in 56 games for Lindbergh during his prep career, averaging 19.3 points and 8.8 rebounds per game. His finest prep game came in a 51-point effort on Senior Night vs. Evergreen, then followed that with a 29-point effort vs. Washington to earn WIAA Athlete of the Week honors.

“He can score in different ways and is very active defensively,” added Dominguez. “His understanding of the game, overall work ethic, and enthusiasm to be the best he can be is what attracted us to him and we immediately knew he was an impact personality and player for our program. Jalen is also driven in the classroom and comes from a terrific family with great support and we couldn’t be more thrilled to have him join our Viking family.”

In addition to ranking among the state’s leading scorers as a senior, Green shot 60.5% from the field (170-for-281) and hit 24 of 45 3-point attempts (53.3%). He scored in double-digits in all 18 games in 2017-18, and recorded 17 double-doubles (points-rebounds).

Over the course of his three-year varsity career at Lindbergh, Green appeared in 56 games, averaging 19.3 points, 8.8 rebounds and 2.6 blocks per game. He finished his career with 1,079 career points, scoring in double-digits in 47 of 56 career games.

Green is the younger brother of University of Washington senior guard Dominic Green.

Green is the third of WWU’s recruiting class that is being announced this week as program additions for the 2018-19 season. Forward Cameron Retherford (Portland Community College) and Tucker Eenigenburg (Bakersfield College) were announced earlier this week.
