BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Western Washington University head men’s basketball coach Tony Dominguez has announced junior college transfer Tucker Eenigenburg out of Bakersfield College has signed with the Vikings and is set to join the program beginning in the 2018-19 season.
Eenigenburg (any-gun-berg) is a native of Bakersfield, California, having prepped at Stockdale High School prior to his standout two-year career at Bakersfield College. The 6-3 guard will be a junior in eligibility when he suits up for the Vikings beginning in 2018-19.
“We are extremely excited about Tucker and what he brings to our program. His shooting and overall scoring ability is an elite skill that we will utilize greatly,” said Dominguez, who will be entering his 7th season leading the program and 24th overall at WWU. “He comes from a tremendous program in Bakersfield College and we know that we are getting a very tough kid that will play both ends of the court. We are very fortunate to have Tucker join the Viking Family.”
Eenigenburg was a two-time First Team Western State Conference South Division selection. Over the course of his two years at Bakersfield, the 6-3 guard averaged 14.4 points per game and shot over 43% from 3-point range (126-for-291/.433). He was also a career 93.0% free throw shooter missing only 11 shots from the charity stripe (147-for-158).
As a sophomore in 2017-18, Eenigenburg averaged 19.0 points and 5.9 rebounds per game, while shooting 46.6% from 3-point range connecting on 75-of-161 shots from long distance. He scored in double digits in 23 of 26 games and made at least three 3-pointers in 16 games. He scored a single-game career-high 51 points Jan. 27, 2018 in a 87-81 win over Canyons. In that record-setting game he was 13-for-21 from the field, including 8-for-12 from 3-point range, and was a perfect 17-for-17 from the free throw line.
During his freshman season in 2016-17, he appeared in 30 games (11 starts) and averaged 10.4 points and 3.5 rebounds per game.
A product of Bakersfield’s Stockdale High School, Eenigenburg was a First Team All-Southwest Yosemite League selection as a junior (2013-14) and senior (2014-15).
Eenigenburg is the second of WWU’s recruiting class that is being announced this week as program additions for the 2018-19 season. Forward Cameron Retherford (Portland Community College) was announced Monday as the first addition to the program.
