WWU adds program top-10 marks at Husky Classic

SEATTLE, Wash. – Sophomores Hannah Bradley and Emily Sytsma recorded program top-10 marks in the 200m as the Western Washington University track & field program opened competition at the Husky Classic on Friday, hosted by the University of Washington in the Dempsey Indoor facility.

Friday’s competition was the first of three consecutive days for the Vikings at Dempsey Indoor. WWU is in action during the second day of the Husky Classic on Saturday before the UW Open begins on Sunday as the last competition date prior to the GNAC Indoor Championships next weekend.

Bradley (Bellingham, WA) was 22nd in a time of 25.96 and Sytsma (Lynden, WA/Lynden Christian/Concordia) followed in 26.02 during the 200m race as both posted personal-best times. Bradley’s time enters the WWU indoor top-10 list at No. 7 and ranks 6th in the GNAC this season. Sytsma’s time ranks at No. 9 on the WWU top 10 as well as 8th in the GNAC during the season.

In the men’s 200m, freshman Bryant Welch (Burien, WA/Mount Rainier) placed 15th (22.52) with a personal-best time and junior Daniel Jones (Ferndale, WA) followed in 26th (22.86).

Junior Isaac Derline (Kent, WA/Kentridge), making his 2018 indoor season debut, placed 74th in the 5,000m with a time of 14:57.56. His time is 5th-best in the GNAC during 2018.

WWU pole vaulters were also in action during Friday’s competition. For the women, sophomore Jewels Oliquiano(Kaneohe, HI/Castle), along with freshmen Amanda Andersen (Richland, WA/Hanford), Mariah Brelsford (Bozeman, MT) and Hannah Dodson (Seattle, WA/Nathan Hale), each tied for 8th (as of Friday’s flight) at a height of 3.24m (10-7 ½). Andersen, Brelsford and Dodson each posted personal-bests with the height.

On the men’s side in the pole vault, juniors Adam Thomas (Washougal, WA) and J.T. Konrad (Mead, WA/Mount Spokane) each cleared 4.42m (14-6) to tie for 11th (as of Friday’s flight).

Competition resumes on Saturday with track events starting at 9 am and field events beginning at 9:30 am. The meet can be followed through the day with live results while FloTrack (subscription required) will provide video stream coverage.
