Two Washington State Cougars have been honored by the Pac-12 following Wazzu’s 30-27 upset of USC on Friday. Linebacker Jahad Woods and kicker Erik Powell have both been named PAC-12 Players of the Week.
Woods took home the defensive award after registering a game-high nine tackles, including a sack, tackle-for-loss and a forced fumble. The redshirt-freshman sacked Sam Darnold on the Trojans’ final possession, forcing the fumble that the Cougars recovered.
Powell got the special teams honors after accounting for 12 points with three field goals and three extra points, in Friday’s win. The redshirt-senior hit a 32-yard field goal with 1:40 left to play that proved to be the game-winner.
Stanford running back Bryce Love prevented a clean sweep by the Cougars. The junior set Stanford’s single-game rushing record with 301 yards, tied for eighth-most in Pac-12 history. He racked up three touchdown runs to help the Cardinal beat Arizona State 34-24.
