BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Hot summer weather and not a lot of moisture is prompting the Whatcom County Fire Marshal to restrict outdoor burning.

The fire marshal’s office is enacting a burn ban on Tuesday at 8:00 in the morning.

Spokesperson Mitch Nolze says no land clearing or yard debris burning can happen after that point.

Recreational fires are still allowed as long as they’re less than three feet in diameter, in an approved enclosure, and use only seasoned firewood or charcoal.

The minimum fine for violating a burn ban is $250.
