WCC hosts special basketball game honoring local veterans on Veterans Day

Nov. 11 event is free and open to the public

Bellingham, Wash. – Whatcom Community College is hosting a special pre-season women’s basketball game to honor local veterans on Saturday, Nov. 11 at 4 p.m. in the College’s Pavilion gym. The free event features an exhibition match between the 2017-18 women’s basketball team and alumni. Veterans, high school students, basketball players and the community are encouraged to attend.

Seven local U.S. Navy, Army and Air Force veterans from the Korean, Vietnam, Gulf, Afghanistan and Iraq Wars will be recognized for their service and contributions to the community at halftime. Of those honorees, two veterans with 30 or more years of military service—Mike Langey and John Ferdon—will serve as honorary coaches for the day. The American Legion Post 7 Honor Guard will perform the National Anthem and there will be a Hotel Bellwether Lighthouse Bar & Grill gift certificate giveaway for veterans. Woods Coffee will provide free coffee for all attendees.
