OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) — People in some parts of the country are sweating in a broiling heat, but the games of winter have only now come to rest for the year.

Victory parades are the order of the day in two professional sports leagues, the National Hockey League and the National Basketball Association.

The Penguins of Pittsburgh go first, with a celebration through the streets of the western Pennsylvania city Wednesday, in a party where the most familiar scene will be players passing around the hotly-pursued Stanley Cup.

Now, a day after the NBA’s Golden State Warriors reclaimed the championship trophy taken away in 2016 by the Cleveland Cavaliers, people in the city of Oakland are excitedly preparing for a parade Thursday to celebrate the Warriors title.

Fans have been snapping up victory shirts and hats following a night of celebrating, and city crews are busy hanging championship banners along the parade route.

The parade will take place Thursday morning in downtown Oakland, following the same route as the team’s parade to celebrate the 2015 NBA title.
