BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Four Western Washington University student-athletes have been selected to the Google Cloud Academic All-District® Men’s and Women’s Track & Field and Cross Country teams, announced Tuesday by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Seniors Jasmine McMullin (Sequim, WA) and Anna Paradee (Tacoma, W/Decatur) were named as women’s team selections while on the men’s side senior Andrew Wise (Denver, CO/East) and junior Kyler Sager (Snohomish, WA/Everett CC) also earned academic acclaim.
McMullin and Paradee were two of four women from the Great Northwest Athletic Conference earning honors while Wise and Sager were two of five men from the conference recognized. The District 8 teams are composed of student-athletes from the GNAC, California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) and Pacific West (PacWest) Conference.
Student-athletes earning Google Cloud Academic All-District® recognition must be of at least sophomore standing with a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 or higher and a starter or important reserve in at least a second year at the nominating institution. The Google Cloud Academic All-District® teams for cross country and track & field are composed of student-athletes competing in the 2017 cross country season and/or 2018 track & field seasons.
For the women, Paradee and McMullin each became two-time honorees with recognition for the second consecutive year. Wise became a three-time honoree with his selection to the team, while Sager was recognized for the first time in his career.
McMullin, who earned a 3.94 GPA during her undergraduate career as an English major and is pursuing a post-bac in an elementary teaching certification program with a 4.00 GPA, concluded an illustrious WWU career during the indoor track & field season. She was 4th in the triple jump at the NCAA Division II Indoor Championships to earn U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) First Team All-America honors and conclude her career as a two-time triple jump All-American.
She won the triple jump and long jump at the 2018 GNAC Indoor Championships, becoming the first three-time indoor triple jump champion in conference history. McMullin set the GNAC record, meet record and school record in the triple jump at the GNAC Championships with a leap of 12.68m (41-7 ¼), earning Women’s Field Athlete of the Meet and Women’s Performance of the Meet awards. Earning USTFCCCA All-West Region recognition in the triple jump and long jump during her senior indoor season, she concluded her WWU career with six individual GNAC titles between indoor and outdoor seasons.
Paradee carries a 3.83 GPA as a kinesiology major and concluded her senior outdoor season with a second consecutive trip to compete in the pole vault at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Championships last weekend. She placed 2nd in the pole vault at the GNAC Outdoor Championship after a jump-off, becoming a four-time All-GNAC honoree in the event for the outdoor season.
She won the pole vault event in three of her first five meets of the season, including a season-best mark of 3.97m (13-0 ¼) at the WWU Team Invitational as a top-10 height in the nation during the season. Paradee earned USTFCCCA All-Region recognition for the third consecutive year during her senior outdoor season. She holds the GNAC and school outdoor pole vault record of 4.01m (13-1 ¾) set in 2017 and, after not competing in the 2018 indoor season, is set to return for the 2019 indoor season tied for the GNAC indoor record with a school record height of 3.92m (12-10 ¼).
Wise concluded his WWU career during the 2017 cross country season and finished with a 3.56 GPA as a journalism and environmental policy double major. He was a USTFCCCA All-West Region honoree for the third time in his career by placing 14th (30:30.9) at the NCAA Division II West Regional in helping the Vikings to finish 8th of 27 as a team. He also earned All-GNAC cross country honors for the second time in his career with a 10th-place finish (25:41.50) at the GNAC Championships.
He concluded his career as a three-time USTFCCCA All-Academic selection for cross country and was also the GNAC Cross Country Men’s Athlete of the Week for the week of Oct. 2-8.
Sager holds a 3.72 GPA as a business administration and accounting double major. He placed 8th at the GNAC Outdoor Championships in the 800m with a time of 1:54.98 and posted a personal-best and provisional-qualifying time of 1:51.94 (No. 4 on the WWU top-10 list) at the Bryan Clay Invitational to rank No. 4 on the GNAC performance list during the year.
He was 4th in the 800m at the GNAC Indoor Championships (1:54.89) and ran the No. 2 time in WWU top-10 history during the prelims of the indoor conference championship (1:54.63) to rank No. 3 on the GNAC performance list for the season. Sager was named a USTFCCCA All-West Region performer in the 800m during the indoor season.
WWU previously placed 21 student-athletes on the GNAC Track & Field All-Academic teams and 13 on the GNAC Cross Country All-Academic teams.
All Google Cloud First Team Academic All-District® honorees advance to the Google Cloud Academic All-America® ballot with teams announced in June.
