SEATTLE, Wash. – The Western Washington University track & field program concluded the two-day UW Invitational on Saturday with eight program top-10 marks to complete the second indoor meet of the season, held Friday and Saturday by the University of Washington at Dempsey Indoor.

Junior Tupre Wickliff (Vancouver, WA/Evergreen/Clark College) led three Vikings in the high jump on Saturday, tying for 14th with a leap of 2.00m (6-6 ¾). He bettered his season-opening mark of 1.95m (6-4 ¾) to move from 10th to 4th on the WWU top-10 list.

A trio of WWU throwers recorded personal-bests ranking among the WWU top-10 list in the weight throw. Freshman Bryce Bryant-Leat (Spokane, WA/Lewis and Clark) led the way with a toss of 14.42m (47-3 ¾) to place 20th on Saturday. He was followed by freshman Avery Lux (Fort Collings, CO/Fossil Ridge) in 22nd (14.02m/46-0) and freshman Ben Malquist (Bellingham, WA/Sehome) in 23rd (13.96m, 45-9 ¾). Bryant-Leat’s effort ranks 7th in WWU history while Lux’s is 9th and Malquist’s is 10th.

Bryant-Leat also added a top-10 mark in the shot put with a mark of 14.77m (48-5 ½) to place 20th. His previous personal best in the season opener at the UW Preview was 14.66m (48-1 ¼), and he remains ranked 10th on the WWU top-10 list after his mark recorded at the UW Preview also held the same rank.

On the track, freshman Bryant Welch (Burien, WA/Mount Rainier) led four Vikings in the 400m dash, clocking a time of 50.06 to tie for the 7th-best time in WWU top-10 history.

A pair of WWU women also recorded personal-best WWU top-10 list times in the 400m, with junior Savannah Smith (Renton, WA) finishing 35th (58.44) and sophomore Emily Sytsma (Lynden, WA/Lynden Christian/Concordia) crossing the line in 46th (59.19). Smith moved from 10th to 6th on the top-10 list, bettering her previous personal-best of 59.47 set in 2016, while Sytsma’s time ranks 9th on the list.

Senior Jasmine McMullin (Sequim, WA), who opened the season at the UW Preview with a NCAA II provisional-qualifying mark of  12.00m (39-4 ½) in the triple jump, placed 11th in the event on Saturday with a jump of 11.67m (38-3 ½) to rank above the provisional-qualifying standard but not best her season-opening mark.

Friday’s competition had included Vikings in the 200m, 3,000m, 5,000m, distance medley relay and pole vault with five program top-10 marks recorded.

WWU travels across the state to the Cougar Indoor next Friday and Saturday, hosted by Washington State University at the WSU Indoor Practice Facility. The Vikings return to Dempsey Indoor later in February for the UW FloTrack Classic (Feb. 9-10), UW Open (Feb. 11) and SPU Final Qualifier (Feb. 24)
