SEATTLE – New Washington Husky men’s basketball coach Mike Hopkins has signed his first two recruits. The first-year head coach announced the signing of Nate Pryor and Michael Carter III Wednesday. The two local guards will join the Huskies in the fall.

Pryor led West Seattle to their first state boy’s semifinal appearance since 1970, during his senior season. He averaged 18.6 points, 4.2 rebounds and 4.7 assists per game.

Carter III, played at O’Dea High School as a junior and senior where he averaged 17 points per game leading the Fighting Irish to the Class 3A state championship in 2016. He spent the 2016-17 season with the Elite Sports Academy in Issaquah.

“These two additions to our class really complement our current team by giving us additional depth,” said Hopkins. “It’s great that they’re both local guys and they are two perfect fits for what we want to build here at the University of Washington.”

Garfield High’s Jaylen Nowell is also part of the incoming recruiting class for the Dawgs. The shooting guard, who is ranked 54th in the ESPN top-100, signed with Washington as part of a top-5 recruiting class under previous coach Lorenzo Romar. Nowell is the only player who did not ask for his release following the firing of Romar in March.
