Junior guard Trey Drechsel, sophomore forward Daulton Hommes and sophomore guard Trevor Jasinsky were WWU’s three honorees to earn GNAC Academic All-Star status.

Drechsel (Woodinville, WA/Cedar Park Christian) became the seventh player in WWU history to earn at least two All-GNAC Academic awards. In the classroom the guard carries a 3.53 GPA as a Business Management major, while on the court he is amongst the elite in the conference averaging 15.4 points, 7.3 rebounds and 4.1 assists per game. Drechsel was also a National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) 2016-17 Honors Court member.

Hommes (Lynden, WA/Lynden Christian) earned the academic honor in his first year of eligibility carrying a 3.49 GPA as a Finance major. On the court Hommes has started all 24 games for the Vikings and is 3rd in the conference averaging 18.0 points per game. He is one of the top shooters in the GNAC with a 55.4 field goal percentage and is 3rd with a 88.5 free throw percentage.

Jasinsky (Camas, WA) maintains a 3.49 GPA as a Marketing major. He has started all 24 games for the Vikings, averaging 9.9 points, 3.4 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game.

This marks the second year in a row the Vikings have had three selections to the GNAC All-Academic team, tying the 2008-09 and 2010-11 teams for the most GNAC Academic All-Star selections in program history. WWU earned the NABC Team Academic Excellence Award for 2016-17 finishing with a team GPA of 3.10.
To be eligible for the GNAC All-Academic Teams, student-athletes must be of sophomore standing or higher, be in their second season of competition at their current institution and be at or above a 3.20 GPA.

The Vikings (18-6, 13-3 GNAC) are in 2nd place in the GNAC with four regular-season games remaining. WWU hosts Alaska Anchorage (Thursday, 7:30 pm) and Alaska Fairbanks (Saturday, 3 pm) this week in home games on WECU Court in Carver Gym.
