PULLMAN, Wash. – The Western Washington University track & field program added a pair of program top-10 marks as four Vikings competed during the first day of the Cougar Indoor on Friday, hosted by Washington State University at the WSU Indoor Practice Facility.

WWU had three competitors in the women’s weight throw and one competitor in the men’s pole vault on Friday, with the majority of WWU student-athletes entered in the meet set to compete on Saturday during the second day of competition.

Sophomore Chanelle Eddy (Bellingham, WA/Sehome/Whitworth) led WWU in the weight throw with a toss of 13.78m (45-2 ½) to place 7th among a field of 20 competitors from NCAA Division I, Division II, Division III, NAIA and U Sports schools. Eddy’s effort ranks as the No. 3 mark on the WWU indoor top-10 list.

Eddy was followed in 9th by freshman Kiana Schwendeman (Bonney Lake, WA) with a mark of 12.95m (42-6). Schwendeman’s mark bettered her previous personal-best of 12.28m (40-3 ½), set at the UW Preview on Jan. 13, to rank 5th on the WWU top-10 list.

Junior Sophia Roberts (Ventura, CA) also competed in the weight throw, placing 16th (12.09m, 39-8). The personal-best for Roberts of 13.39m (43-11 ¼), set at the UW Preview, ranks 4th on the top-10 list.

Junior Adam Thomas (Washougal, WA) placed 14th in the pole vault Friday evening among a field featuring NCAA Division I, NCAA Division III, NAIA and U Sports competitors. He cleared 4.45m (14-7 ¼) for a season-best mark.

The Cougar Indoor resumes Saturday at 10 am and will continue through the last scheduled event set for 3:55 pm. Following the Cougar Indoor, the Vikings return to the University of Washington for two meets with the UW FloTrack Classic (Feb. 9-10) and the UW Open (Feb. 11) next weekend.
