Sounders and Timbers square off with 1st place on the line

The heated rivalry between the Seattle Sounders at Portland Timbers will be even more intense when the two teams clash tonight at CenturyLink Field. First place in the MLS Western Conference is on the line.

Seattle is currently in first place with a narrow 1 point lead over Portland (40 points) The Sounders are 11-7-8 (41 points) while the Timbers are11-9-7 (40 points).

Both teams are playing well. Seattle is back at home following a 1-1 draw at Vancouver Wednesday. That extended their unbeaten streak to 10 matches, breaking a 2011 club record. Portland is 3-and-1 in the month of August, coming off a 2-1 victory over the Colorado Rapids at home on Wednesday.

Seattle will celebrate their NASL roots tonight. According to soundersfc.com, the Sounders will wear their Heritage kits and CenturyLink Field will feature the Sounders’ original colors and logos. The match is scheduled for a 6:30pm start.
