SEATTLE (AP) — A Seattle man says he chased down a suspected thief who ripped the bat off of the statue of baseball player Ken Griffey Jr.

KING-TV reports the suspect was apprehended on Tuesday after Kelsey Klevenberg followed the man who ditched the bat in a garbage can during the chase.

Klevenberg says he was across the street from Safeco Field when he saw the man bending the bat back and forth until it snapped off of the statue of the Seattle Mariners star.

Klevenberg says he chased the man because “if there’s one thing you don’t do in Seattle, Washington, it’s mess with the statue of Ken Griffey, Jr.”
