BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Western Washington University junior outside hitter Abby Phelps has been named the 2017 Great Northwest Athletic Conference Volleyball Player of the Year to lead five Vikings selected to the all-conference team, announced Wednesday by the league office in Portland, Ore.
Phelps (Manson, WA/Chelan) was one of four First Team selections, joining senior opposite Joellee Buckner (Colville, WA), junior setter Brette Boesel (Brewster, WA) and junior middle blocker Michaela Hall (Centralia, WA). Junior libero Aubrey Buckner (Colville, WA) was an honorable mention selection, as the GNAC champion Vikings led all conference member schools with the five all-league selections. Phelps and Buckner were unanimous selections by league coaches to the 14-player All-GNAC First Team.
“Each of these players are very deserving of this honor to be named to the all-conference team,” said Flick-Williams, who has led the Vikings to a 392-102 (.794) record as WWU’s head coach. “Their individual awards are a result of how close this team is and how hard they have worked to elevate our program to this level.”
