SEATTLE, Wash. – Seattle Mariners Executive Vice President & General Manager of Baseball Operations Jerry Dipoto announced today that the club has outrighted the contract of outfielder Cameron Perkins to AAA Tacoma.
Seattle’s Major League, 40-man, roster is now at 38 players.
Perkins, 27, hit .308 (8×26) with 2 runs and 1 RBI in 10 Cactus League games with the Mariners this spring. The 6-foot-5, 195-pound outfielder was claimed off waivers by the Mariners from the Phillies on Dec. 11, 2017. He made his Major League debut with Philadelphia in 2017. After being selected by the Phillies on June 20, he appeared in 42 games, batting .182 (16×88) with 9 runs, 5 doubles, 1 home run and 8 RBI. He began the season with AAA Lehigh Valley, where he hit .288 (74×257) with 37 runs, 18 doubles, 1 triple, 7 home runs and 27 RBI in 76 games.
Perkins was selected by Seattle in the 43rd round of the 2009 MLB First-Year Player Draft out of Southport High School (Indianapolis, IN) but did not sign. After playing 3 seasons at Purdue University, he was selected by Philadelphia in the 6th round of the 2012 MLB First Draft. In parts of 6 minor league seasons with the Phillies, the native of Indianapolis, IN, is a career .282 (613×2176) hitters with 263 runs, 145 doubles, 16 triples, 39 home runs and 271 RBI in 596 career games.
