No Kaepernick to be found as OTA’s get underway for Seahawks

The Seattle Seahawks opened up their first day of organized team activities Tuesday at the Virginia Mason Athletic Center in Renton and the buzz was more about who was not there as opposed to those who were. Not there…Colin Kaepernick.

A link between Seattle and Kaepernick, the former San Francisco 49ers star QB, has been the focus of much discussion the past two weeks. The focus intensified this weekend following an erroneous Instagram post this weekend  from Spike Lee.

The award winning film-maker posted a photo of he and Kaepernick Saturday writing “Big Love Shoutout To The Head Coach Pete Carroll For Signing my Brother Colin Kaepernick To The Seahawks. The Truth Is On Your Side. Much Success For The Coming Season.”

The post was deleted shortly after multiple reports came out questioning it’s veracity.

To this point, Kaepernick, who met with the Seahawks last week, remains a free agent. Now a report from former NFL assistant coach and executive Pat Kirwan casts doubts on the likelihood of a deal happening.

According to the Seattle Times, Kirwan, now a Sirius/XM NFL analyst, spoke about Kaepernick on his show Tuesday and then posted his doubts about Seattle inking a deal on his Twitter feed. Kirwan is close with Seahawks coach Pete Carroll after the two worked together for the New York Jets in the early 90’s.

Seattle is believed to be the only team interested in the free agent QB. Just two weeks ago, Seahawks defensive lineman Michael Bennett called Seattle a “perfect place” for Kaepernick. To this point Seattle has not announced any decision one way or the other.

According to Seahawks.com, Seattle continues organized team activities  on Thursday and Friday.  They are also scheduled for June 5th, 6th, 8th and 9th before concluding with mandatory minicamp June 13-15.
