Nationwide new home sales plummet

BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Whatcom County home sales seem to be getting a little better each month, but the number of Americans buying new homes plummeted in March to the slowest pace in eight months.

It’s a sign that real estate’s spring buying season is off to a weak start.

The Street’s Joe Deaux says sales of new homes declined more than 14 percent last month.

It was the second straight monthly decline and the lowest rate since July.

New-home sales have dropped more than 13 percent over the past 12 months.
