Mike Zunino hits three home runs in win over Brewers

PEORIA, Ariz. – Mike Zunino accounted for 4 of the Mariners 9 hits and 5 of their 7 runs as Seattle defeated the Milwaukee Brewers, 7-4, before a crowd of 6,846 on Wednesday night at Peoria Stadium. He is the first Mariner with 3 home runs in a
Cactus League game since Robinson Canó on March 27, 2016 at the Cubs.
Zunino went 4-for-4 with 3 home runs and 5 RBI and is now batting .389 (14×36) with 8 runs, 1 double, 5 home runs and 11 RBI in 14 games this spring. Over his last 5 games (3/11-c), Zunino is 11-for-16 (.688) with 7 runs, 1 double, 4 home runs
and 10 RBI.

The Mariners took a 2-0 lead over the Brewers in the bottom of the 2nd as Zunino launched a two-run home run to left-center field. After Milwaukee evened the score at 2-2 with a pair of runs in the 3rd, Zunino struck again in the bottom of the 4th. With
Mitch Haniger aboard after a one-out walk, Zunino drilled a two-run home run to right-center field to make it 4-2 Mariners. The Brewers got a run back in the top of the 5th on Jonathan Villar’s second RBI-double of the game.

Seattle scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the 5th to make it a 6-3 ballgame. Dee Gordon doubled to start the frame before Canó worked a one-out walk. Ryon Healy then lifted a sacrifice fly to left field before Kyle Seager lined an RBIsingle
into right field. Milwaukee cut the Mariners lead, 6-4, with a run in the 6th, but Seattle responded quickly. Zunino connected for his 3rd home run of the evening – a solo blast – in the bottom of the 6th.

The Mariners (12-14-1) return to Cactus League action tomorrow (Thursday, March 22) against the Texas Rangers at 6:40pm at Peoria Stadium. Left-hander Marco Gonzales is slated to start for the Mariners opposite Rangers right-hander Bartolo Colon.
