The West Coast League’s Moss Adams Player of the Week and Pitcher of the Week, as announced by league commissioner Rob Neyer, are UCLA freshman-to-be infielder Matt McLain of the Bellingham Bells and Walla Walla CC sophomore-to-be pitcher Michael Peterson of the Walla Walla Sweets for the week of July 30-August 5.

McLain went 10-for-26 for the week with 8 runs scored, a double, triple, homer and 7 RBIs. For the summer, McLain hit .291 in the regular season with 3 home runs and 24 RBIs. His next action will be in the post-season as the Bells finished its season yesterday and now waits for its North Division opponent. Bellingham heads to the playoffs with a 35-19 overall record, and as the first-half North champs will play game one of the North Divisional Series away on Friday, August 10 while hosting games two and three at Joe Martin Field on Saturday, August 11 and Sunday, August 12 (if necessary).

Matt McLain will play his college baseball at UCLA in the Pac-12. He was a first-round pick of the Arizona Diamondbacks in the 2018 MLB June draft.

Michael Peterson of Walla Walla CC tossed 7 innings of scoreless ball to earn the win in the Sweets 2-0 home victory over Kelowna on August 2. Peterson only gave up one hit and one walk while striking out 9.

For the summer, the right-hander from Pullman, Washington is 1-2 with a 4.15 ERA for Walla Walla, and has struck out 27 and walked only 5 over 30.1 innings pitched.
