SEATTLE, Wash. – The Seattle Mariners selected right-handed pitcher Logan Gilbert out of Stetson University with their first selection (14th overall pick) in the 2018 First-Year Player Draft, Director of Amateur Scouting Scott Hunter announced tonight.

Gilbert, 21, was named ASUN (Atlantic Sun Conference) Pitcher of the Year and received ASUN 1st-Team All-Conference honors in 2017. He received All-America honors from both Perfect Game (3rd-Team) and Collegiate Baseball (2nd-Team),
and was selected preseason All-America by Collegiate Baseball (2nd-Team) and Perfect Game (1st-Team) prior to his junior year in 2018.

“Logan is a polished, accomplished college pitcher,” Hunter said. “He is a strikeout pitcher who controls the zone and wins, as evidenced by his 21-1 mark over the past two years. This is a player we felt we had no chance at, coming out of the summer. We are truly excited to add this type of talent to our organization.”

As a junior in 2018, Gilbert has posted a 2.52 ERA while going 11-1 with 157 strikeouts and 23 walks in 15 starts. His 157 strikeouts lead NCAA Division-1 baseball this season, while his 0.82 WHIP is 5th (min. 1 IP/team game).

Over the course of three seasons with Stetson University, the 6-foot-6, 225-pound right-hander posted a 23-2 record with a 2.38 ERA (65 ER, 245.1 IP) with 307 strikeouts and 75 walks in 51 games (32 starts) while allowing only 11 home runs.

He was named ASUN Pitcher of the Week twice in 2017, and was recognized by Perfect Game, Collegiate Baseball, Baseball America and College Sports Madness as National Pitcher of the Week after falling 3 outs short of a no-hitter in a
complete-game shutout vs. Florida Golf Coast on April 9, 2017. He tallied 18 strikeouts in the shutout, the 3rd-most strikeouts in a game by any Division-I pitcher in 2017.
In the summer of 2017, he played as a member of the Orleans Firebirds in the Cape Cod Collegiate League where he earned the Thomas Yankus Pitching Award and was named to the All-League team. He went 2-2 with a 1.93 ERA over 37.1 innings in 9 games (8 starts) with 39 strikeouts and 6 walks with the Firebirds.

Prior to his time at Stetson, Gilbert was ranked among the top 75 prospects in the state of Florida and the top 500 prospects in the nation by Perfect Game. He received honorable mention All-America and All-Florida from Rawlings-Perfect Game.
The Mariners will make one more selection tonight with the 54th pick of the draft. The 2018 Draft continues tomorrow with rounds 3-10 (starts at 10:00 a.m. PT) and rounds 11-40 on Wednesday (starts at 9:00 a.m. PT)
