Mariners return from rehab & activate Steve Cishek from 10-day DL

SEATTLE, Wash. – Seattle Mariners Executive Vice President & General Manager of Baseball Operations Jerry Dipoto announced today that right-handed pitcher Steve Cishek has returned from his rehab assignment with AAA Tacoma and has been activated from the 10-day disabled list. Left-handed pitcher Zac Curtis was optioned to AA Arkansas.

Cishek, 30, went 1-0 with a 3.00 ERA with 7 strikeouts and 4 walks in 7 combined rehab appearances, including 2 starts, with AA Arkansas and AAA Tacoma. He began his rehab assignment with 1.0 scoreless inning on April 17 with the Travelers. In 4 games with Arkansas, he posted a 5.40 ERA with 4 strikeouts and 1 walk. Cishek made 3 appearances with Tacoma, where he went 1-0 while allowing 2 hits in 2.2 scoreless innings pitched. He struck out 3 and walked 3 with the Rainiers.

He was originally placed on the 10-day disabled list on March 31 as he was recovering from surgery to repair a left hip labrum tear. Cishek underwent surgery on October 12, 2016. The 6-foot-6, 217-pound right-hander went 4-6 with 25 saves and a 2.81 ERA with 76 strikeouts and 21 walks in 62 games with the Mariners last season.
