SEATTLE, Wash. — Seattle Mariners announced the roster move today. Marc Rzepczynski has been released. Seattle’s Major League, 40-man roster, remains at 39 players.

Rzepczynski, 32, was designated for assignment on June 1. He was 0-1 with a 9.39 ERA (8 ER, 7.2 IP) with 10 strikeouts and 9 walks in 18 relief appearances with the Mariners this season.

After being signed by the Mariners as a free agent on Dec. 3, 2016, Rzepczynski went 2-2 with 1 save and a 4.02 ERA (14 ER, 31.1 IP) with 25 strikeouts and 20 walks in 64 relief appearances with Seattle in 2017. The 6-foot-2, 220-pound left-hander stranded 44-of-52 (85%) inherited runners last season, the top mark in the Major Leagues (min. 50 inherited runners). Rzepczynski tallied a career-high 20 holds, which ranked T12th in the American League. His 64 outings ranked 3rd on the club, trailing Nick Vincent (69) and Edwin Díaz (66).

In parts of 10 Major League seasons with Toronto (2009-11), St. Louis (2011-13), Cleveland (2013-15), San Diego (2015), Oakland (2016), Washington (2016) and Seattle (2017-18), Rzepczynski holds a career record of 14-27 with 2 saves and a 3.92 ERA (188 ER, 432.0 IP) with 408 strikeouts and 204 walks in 501 games (23 starts). He made his 500th career Major League appearance on May 29 vs. Texas and ranks 6th among active left-handed relievers with 501 career games. Rzepczynski has made 21 career postseason appearances, going 1-1 with a 4.26 ERA (6 ER, 12.2 IP) with 16 strikeouts and 6 walks. The native of Oak Lawn, IL., was selected by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 5th round of the 2007 First-Year Player Draft out of the University of California-Riverside.
