KANSAS CITY, MO. – Seattle Mariners Executive Vice President & General Manager of Baseball Operations Jerry Dipoto announced today the following roster moves:
• Chasen Bradford, RHP, recalled from AAA Tacoma.
• Ryon Healy, 1B, placed on the 10-day disabled list (retroactive to April 8) with a sprained right ankle.
Bradford (#60) will be in uniform and available for tonight’s (5:15 pm PT) game at the Kansas City Royals at Kauffman Stadium.
Bradford, 28, appeared in 1 game with AAA Tacoma this season, tossing 1.0 shutout inning vs. Sacramento on April 5. He appeared in 9 games with the Mariners in Spring Training, recording 1 save and a 0-1 record while striking out 9 in 10.1 innings pitched.
The Mariners claimed Bradford off waivers from New York-NL on Jan. 19, 2018. He made his Major League debut with the Mets last season, going 2-0 with a 3.74 ERA (14 ER, 33.2 IP) with 27 strikeouts in 28 relief appearances. With AAA Las Vegas, he was 1-1 with 11 saves and a 4.04 ERA (16 ER, 35.2 IP) with 28 strikeouts in 33 relief appearances. He made his Major League debut on June 25 at San Francisco, tossing 1.0 shutout inning.
In seven minor league seasons, he is 28-20 with 47 saves and a 3.48 ERA (151 ER, 391.0 IP) with 333 strikeouts in 307 appearances, all in relief. He was selected by New York-NL in the 35th round of the 2011 MLB First-Year Player Draft out of the University of Central Florida. He graduated from Silverado (NV) High School in Las Vegas in 2008 where he earned First-Team All-State, First-Team All-Southern Nevada and First-Team All-Sunrise Region recognition while going 11-0 with a 0.65 ERA in 65.0 innings as a junior. He pitched two seasons at the College of Southern Nevada before pitching two seasons at the University of Central Florida.
Healy, 26, sprained his right ankle following the game on April 7 while working out in the weight room. He was 1-for-4 with a bases clearing double in Seattle’s 11-4 win at Minnesota Saturday. For the season he’s hitting .091 (2×22) with 1 run, 1 double and 4 RBI.
He hit .271 (156×576) with 29 doubles, 25 home runs and 78 RBI in 149 games with Oakland in 2017. Healy appeared at 1st base (39 games), 3rd base (34 games), designated hitter (78 games) and as a pinch-hitter (3 games). He hit .314 (43×137) versus left-handed pitchers with a .526 slugging mark, collecting 8 of his doubles and 7 of his home runs vs. lefties.
Healy, a 6-foot-4, 232-pound right-handed hitter, made his Major League debut with the A’s on July 15, 2016, appearing in 72 games and posting a .305 (82×269) average with 20 doubles and 13 home runs while slugging .524. Following the 2016 season, he was named to the Baseball America Major League All-Rookie Team. He combined to bat .326 with 14 home runs and 64 RBI in 85 games with AA Midland and AAA Nashville and was named the A’s Organizational Hitter of the Year and a Baseball America minor league All-Star.
