PEORIA, Ariz. – The Mariners fell short to the Chicago White Sox, 4-2, in front of a crowd of 7,287 on Monday night at Peoria Stadium. Kyle Seager (double), Jean Segura (triple) and Mike Marjama (double) each recorded extra-base hits tonight.
The White Sox jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the 1st on a solo home run from Adam Engel and back-to-back doubles by Avisail Garcia and Matt Davidson. Chicago tacked on one run in the top of the 4th on another solo home run to extend
its lead, 3-0.
The Mariners answered back with one run in the bottom of the 4th as Ichiro led off the inning with a walk and scored from 1st on Segura’s RBI-triple into the right field corner. Seattle cut the White Sox lead, 3-2, in the bottom of the 5th. Mike Marjama started the inning with a double, stole 3rd base and scored on Andrew Romine’s RBI-groundout.
Chicago added an insurance run in the top of the 9th on Engel’s second home run of the game.
In his 4th start of the spring, Marco Gonzales allowed 2 runs on 4 hits while walking 2 and striking out 1 in 1.2 innings pitched. He was removed from the game in the 2nd inning with a right hand contusion after being struck by a line drive. Juan Nicasio tossed 1.1 scoreless innings, allowing 1 hit and striking out 1. Marc Rzepczysnki allowed a solo home run in the4th, his only inning of work. Ryan Cook worked around a single and a walk to keep the White Sox off the board in the 5th

Nick Vincent made his Cactus League debut in the 6th and retired the side in order, striking out 2. Edwin Díaz worked a 1-2-3 top of the 7th inning. Minor league call-up Bryan Bonnell allowed 1 run while striking out 2 in 2.0 innings pitched.
The Mariners (6-11-1) return to Cactus League action tomorrow (Tuesday, March 13) against the Colorado Rockies at 1:10 p.m. at Salt River Fields at Talking Stick. The game will be available live on Mariners.com and broadcast delayed (7:00 p.m.) in the Seattle area on 710 ESPN Seattle and the Mariners Radio Network.
